I still remember my hands shaking.
It was one of my very first Reiki sessions with someone who wasn’t a friend or family member. I had my certificate. I had memorized the hand positions. I knew the symbols.
And I was terrified that nothing would happen.
About ten minutes in, the woman on the table started quietly crying. Afterward she told me it was the first time in months she had felt safe in her own body.
I hadn’t done anything special. I had simply shown up, stayed present, and let the energy move.
That was more than twenty years ago. Since then I’ve worked with thousands of people — most of them at a distance, through my distant healing practice — and created the Angelic Sphere of Light technique in 2005.
Here’s what all those years taught me. Some of it surprised me. Some of it humbled me.
Lesson 1: The Healer Is Not the Hero
When I started, I thought I had to make healing happen. Push energy. Fix things.
I was wrong.
Healing happens through resonance, not force. My job is not to supply power — it’s to create a calm, coherent space where your own system remembers how to reorganize itself.
The body already knows how to heal. Reiki helps remove the noise.
That realization took a huge weight off my shoulders. It also made my sessions far more effective.
Lesson 2: Distance Changes Nothing
I was skeptical of distant Reiki at first. How could it possibly work without hands on a body?
Then I started doing it.
The sensations I feel during a distant session — heat, pressure, shifts in the field, moments where something “clicks” — are the same ones I feel in person. And clients describe the same things: warmth, tingling, deep relaxation, emotional release, better sleep.
I don’t claim to understand every mechanism. But after thousands of sessions, I trust what I’ve seen.
Intention connects. Distance is just geography.
Every distant session I do follows the same simple rhythm: cleanse, amplify, protect, ground. It isn’t complicated. But it’s consistent — and consistency is what lets the energy do its work.
People often ask what they should do while a distant session is happening. My answer is always the same: nothing special. Lie down if you can. Breathe. Let your mind wander.
You don’t have to concentrate or believe anything. Just receive.

Lesson 3: The Nervous System Is the Doorway
Twenty years ago, nobody in my circles talked about the vagus nerve.
Now I think about it constantly.
When someone lives in fight-or-flight for years, their body stays braced. Shoulders tight. Breath shallow. Sleep light. In that state, very little can get in — not rest, not love, not healing.
The first thing Reiki usually does is help the body let go of that bracing. Everything else follows.
If you remember one thing from this article, make it this: a calm body is a receptive body.
Lesson 4: Emotions Live in the Body
So many people come to me for a sore back, tight chest, or constant fatigue — and during the session, grief comes up. Or anger. Or memories they haven’t thought about in years.
This used to worry me. Now I understand it.
The body stores what the mind couldn’t process at the time. When energy starts moving again, what was stuck often surfaces so it can finally leave.
That’s why I always tell clients: if you feel emotional after a session, let it come. Drink water. Rest. Be gentle with yourself.
Lesson 5: Healing Isn’t Always What You Ordered
People come wanting a specific outcome. Sometimes they get it.
Sometimes they get something else — something they didn’t know they needed.
A man who came for insomnia ended up repairing a relationship with his brother. A woman who came for anxiety realized she needed to leave a job that was draining her. Their sleep and anxiety improved too — but only after the deeper shift.
Healing has its own intelligence. I’ve learned to trust it more than my own plans.
Lesson 6: Consistency Beats Intensity
One powerful session can be beautiful. But the people who change the most are the ones who build small, steady habits around their healing.
Five minutes of breathing every morning. A walk without a phone. A hand on the heart before sleep. Regular sessions when life gets heavy.
The energy work opens a door. Daily life is where you walk through it.
Lesson 7: I’m Still a Student
The day I think I’ve figured it all out is the day I should stop.
Every session teaches me something. Every client brings a different pattern, a different story, a different kind of courage.
After twenty years, I’m less certain about the theories — and more certain than ever about the experience.
If You’re Curious
If you’ve been wondering whether Reiki or angelic energy work could help you, start simply. Read. Breathe. Try a session.
I offer personalized distant Reiki and Angelic Sphere of Light sessions through my Etsy shop, Holistic Art Studio, where more than 2,000 people have already trusted me with their healing.
My hands don’t shake anymore.
But I still show up to every session the same way I did that first day — present, humble, and ready to be surprised.
